Between Being and Longing

A tattered armchair becomes a place of longing, the ownerless shower an oasis, and tulips in a concrete planter a glimmer of hope. The images play with their illusionistic effect. They are not merely depictions of reality but also abstractions that elevate the mundane to the point of idealization. They originate from the landscape of Iceland, reduced to a pure surface. Everyday objects and technology unexpectedly appear in the barren landscape, revealing the contradictions of human existence. These are objects of the real world, staged with light to become sculptures of a fictional world. The landscape becomes the tableau for this staged intertwining of appearance and reality. Through staging, the small becomes monumental, and the monumental loses its exaltation. Out of nothing, quirky humor emerges, hinting at an unexpected perspective on longing beyond common certainties and schemas.
